EPM Suite

The EPM Suite unifies tools engineers use to configure, monitor, and record process data. Previously, these evolved separately, creating fragmented workflows, duplicated logic, and inconsistent experiences.

A scalable, modular library architecture

Specialised libraries like Therma EPM extend the base architecture with product-specific components, data-driven UI patterns, and interaction models optimised for complex industrial workflows and domain precision.

Built using Atomic Design principles, each layer, from tokens to organisms, ensures scalability, consistency, and flexibility, allowing updates to cascade system-wide while maintaining clarity and alignment across products.

Understanding system workflows and information structure

Our research mapped navigation patterns and cross-module workflows, revealing fragmented structures, duplicated functionality, and inconsistent mental models across configuration, monitoring, alarms, and device interactions.

These insights guided a unified information architecture, clarifying module relationships, aligning functionalities, and establishing predictable hierarchies that support scalable navigation across the entire EPM Suite ecosystem.

Components

Scalability & systemised component logic

Components were structured following Atomic Design principles, ensuring scalability and clarity from foundational atoms to complex, reusable organisms.

Each component was built with optimised properties panels, variants, auto-layout, & standardised layer naming, enabling designers to configure variants efficiently and maintain consistency across products.

Tokens

Demonstrate consistency & logic at the core level

The foundation layer defines colour, shape, and typography tokens, providing consistent visual logic across all components.

Each variable follows a structured naming convention, enabling easy updates and seamless handoff to development.

System architecture & ecosystem mapping

The EPM Suite was rebuilt on a shared design foundation, enabling products like Power and Data Management to inherit the same core logic, tokens, navigation structures, and component patterns.

Power optimises electrical control workflows, while Data Management organises and analyses process data. Both connect through the EPM Platform, sharing logic and terminology for seamless cross-module experiences.

Design decision example - System hierarchy

This example highlights a design decision where I translated a complex control-engineering hierarchy into a clear interface structure that mirrors real system relationships and operator workflows.

By mapping plant, furnace, and zone dependencies directly into the UI, I enabled operators to interpret system logic quickly and navigate between control levels confidently.

Production-readiness & collaboration

The system was designed for seamless developer handoff, with component specs, tokens, & variant logic documented within Figma, Confluence & Jira.

It’s structured for cross-disciplinary understanding, providing clear guidelines and shared language that align product managers, developers, and designers throughout the workflow.

Problem

Design teams were slowed by 200+ duplicate components, confusing naming, and fragmented files. Inefficient workflows wasted hours, while inconsistent specs caused dev rework. Without intervention, scaling new product lines would multiply the chaos.

Solution

I consolidated components into a unified Figma library with tokens, variants, and scalable structure. This streamlined design workflows, cut duplicate components by 40%, improved prototyping speed by 30%, and reduced developer handoff errors.
